In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

  • About This Issue
  • Christopher J. Kauffman

Over the years we have published four issues on the history of African American Catholics. The first appeared in 1986, “The Black Catholic Experience.” The lead article was by Cyprian Davis, O.S.B., “Black Catholics in the United States.” The issue expanded the historical awareness of Black Catholics and became so popular that we published two subsequent issues. Three other issues on African American Catholics and one on “Catholics in the South” featured major articles by him. Thank you, Father Cyprian!

We are grateful for the contributors of the essays in honor of Cyprian Davis. M. Shawn Copeland is an Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at Boston College. Kimberly Flint-Hamilton is Professor of Anthropology at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. Father Bryan M. Massingale is Associate Professor of Moral Theology at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Cecilia A. Moore is Associate Professor in the Religious Studies Department at the University of Dayton.
