This reproduction is a complete facsimile of the Wild-West tale referred to as “The Apache Chief” in the Dubliners story “An Encounter.” On 25 June 1895, it appeared in the story-paper The Halfpenny Marvel, Volume 4, Number 86, pp. 1–14. Published in London, the magazine targeted a young male audience throughout Britain and Ireland. This facsimile was produced from a copy located in the British Library with the kind assistance of Maria Lampert. It appears to be the only extant copy of the story and is reprinted here by permission of the British Library.
