La génération de la Guerre du Vietnam au Japon: trajectoires académiques

In Japan, the period of the Vietnam War brought to the surface a large wave of social protest, culminating in the late 1960's with student-led activism. Some of these students chose to carry their interest in Vietnam beyond a symbolic level, and to engage in actual research on this country. By examining the academic careers of this group, we attempt to understand how this generation successfully integrated themselves into an institutional system dominated by a Japanese state profoundly hostile to them and their efforts. We also try to explain how this generation brought considerable changes to the academic field of Vietnamese studies in Japan.
Au Japon, la période de la Guerre du Vietnam cristallise un vaste courant de contestation sociale, d'aspirations variées, culminant à la fin des années 1960 dans les actions menées par les étudiants. Parmi eux, certains font le choix de pousser leur intérêt pour le Vietnam au-delà du symbole et s'engagent dans la production de recherches. En suivant les trajectoires de ce groupe d'acteurs, il s'agit alors de comprendre comment cette génération de la Guerre du Vietnam s'intègre au centre d'un système institutionnel dominé par un État japonais qui lui est politiquement très hostile, et comment elle modifie la manière de penser la discipline académique des études vietnamiennes au Japon.
