Abstract

This short note provides a description of the binding to be found on Amherst College Incun 1496 C4. A Jean de Vingle edition of Cicero’s Epistolae ad familiares (Lyons, 1496), the binding is identified as the work of Thomas Bedford, ‘The Dragon Binder’. There is manuscript evidence to suggest that its early owners were students or scholars, probably in Oxford. Additional inscriptions identify seventeenth century ownership by Thomas and Robert Yeaveley.
