Sixteen public library members of the Urban Libraries Council participated with the Aquila Theatre in the NEH-funded "Page and Stage" project to bring a timely and fresh interpretation of classical literature to their communities through an in-depth exploration of Homer's first book of the Iliad. Libraries sponsored theater performances, book groups, lectures, workshop, films, and discussions that drew from this significant work to explore issues and themes that resound with contemporary audiences. This successful collaboration extended the reach and importance of the classics to new and diverse audiences who responded enthusiastically to the quality performances, pertinent topics, and lively discussions.
