Contributors Damon Franke is a doctoral candidate in the English Department at the University of Iowa. His dissertation explores religion, heresy, and paganism in Late Victorian and Edwardian literature and culture. He has published in English Language Notes, The Irish Literary Supplement, and Substance. Elana Gomel teaches at the Department of English of Tel-Aviv University, specializing in Victorian literature, narratology, and literature of the fantastic . Her articles on science fiction, violence, feminist theory, and the fascist body appeared in Science-Fiction Studies, Textual Practice, Victorians Institute Journal, and Post Identity. She is currently working on a book about the narratology of violence. Robert P. Irvine wrote his doctoral thesis, on Walter Scott, at the University of Edinburgh, where he now teaches. His book, Enlightenment and Romance: Gender and Agency in Smollett and Scott, is forthcoming from Peter Lang. Jeffrey Pence is Assistant Professor of English at Oberline College, where he teaches in the areas of contemporary literature, film and other media, and theory. His work has appeared in Public Culture, College Literature, and Film and Philosophy. Carl Plasa is a Lecturer in English at the Centre for Critical and Cultural Theory, Cardiff University. He is the editor of Toni Morrison: Beloved (Columbia UP 2000) and author of Textual Politics from Slavery to Postcolonialism : Race and Identification (Macmillan 2000). He is currently working on a study of Charlotte Brontë and colonialism. ...
