ELT Special Session on English Fiction (1880-1920) - Critical Approaches (MLA, Chicago, Dec 1977): The proposed twenty-first ELT Seminar, with H. E. Gerber (Arizona State University) as Discussion Leader, will focus on problems raised by various recent critical approaches to such authors as Arnold Bennett, George Moore, George Gissing, Thomas Hardy, H. G. Wells, and others. Potential contributors of brief papers or position statements are urged to propose new critical directions that might be taken. Papers to be considered should be sent to H. E. Gerber well before 1 July 1977 so that panelists' names mav appear in the MLA program. 3. The Economics of Publishing: At some risk in the face of probable increased costs of postage, paper, and printing in 1977, we nevertheless will continue to charge the same subscription rates as we did for 1976. We have economized by mailing only twice a year, two issues at each mailing. Although the savings are modest, we shall continue this practice. Thus, Nos. 1 and 2 will be mailed in March; Nos. 3 and 4 will be mailed in October. Individual issues will contain from 48 to about 64 pages for a maximum volume total of about 224 to 23O pages. If we can stay within these limits, we are likely to remain independent and self-supporting, although by a hairline. 4. The Subscriber's Role: You can help us continue to realize the impossible dream of making ends meet and keeping us the only self-sustaining specialized scholarly journal we know of in several ways at no additional cost to vou: a. Renew vour subscription early, before January 1, if possible - but renew it. b. Urge vour library to renew as early as possible to save us the cost of mailing reminders and multiple billing. It's as simple as that. Like most of vou, we pay as we go. Note : MLA Seminars are now called Special Sessions. ...
