MLA Division on Late 19th- and Early 20th-Century English Literature ι The Division held its first meeting in New York. With David Thorburn in the chair and assisted by panelists Paul de Man, Albert J. Guerard, Irving Howe, and Richard Poirier, a lively discussion took place on the basis of brief position statements and a series of pre-circulated questions. An audience of 200-300 was both entertained and informed. With a total registered membership of about 992, the Division seems vigorously launched. For the coming year Marvin Magalaner will be chairman and Marjorie Perloff will be secretary. The Division topic for the 1977 meeting will be: The Uses and Misuses of Biographical Perspectives on Late Nineteenth- and Early Twentieth-century Literature. 6.
