Ian Fletcher 15 August 1920 - 2 November 1988 He was exceptional, quite special. For decades he enlightened us with his wit and far-reaching knowledge. In those last days, he quietly offered us something else, a meaningful example of courage and dignity. Ian Fletcher-poet, teacher, scholar, critic-died in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, England, on 2 November 1988. "Till the Future dares Forget the Past," he will be remembered by his colleagues and students as a man of singular intelligence, delightful wit, and genuine good-heartedness. We will miss him much.
