Notes on Contributors Eduardo Mayone Dias was born in Portugal in 1927, and received a "licenciado" degree from the University of Lisbon and a Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Southern California. Presently an Associate Professor in Portuguese, Department of Spanish and Portuguese , University of California, Los Angeles 90024, he is the author of four books and numerous articles on Hispanic cultures and literatures. Tony Friedson, currently editor of Biography, is Professor of English at the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii 96822. His published work includes poetry, scholarly and casual criticism and journalistic writing. Most recently, he edited and prefaced New Directions in Biography —ζ collection of essays on life-writing by seven eminent modern biographers. Michael Slackman, historian at the USS Arizona Memorial, Honolulu , Hawaii 96818, is the author of Remembering Pearl Harbor.
