Editor's Comment Volume 3, Number 1, the fifth issue of Theatre Topics focuses on dramaturgy, a subject we have encouraged readers to write and a subject with meaning and definitions still being explored. Contained within these articles are different approaches to dramaturgy: the discussion of the practical, the teaching in the classroom, the interview with the writer, the examination and exploration of text. These articles are offered with the hope that many of you will be motivated to write other articles on dramaturgy to submit to the new editor of Theatre Topics, Suzanne Burgoyne. The article offered on the fiscal exigency of theatre is published specifically to encourage responses to address the implications of arts and university budgeting on our art of theatre and the teaching of theatre. The six "Comments on Process" cover the many, including the dramaturgical, discussions of the 1992 Women and Theatre Conference. Since this is my last issue as Editor, I gratefully acknowledge the staff of the Johns Hopkins University Press, particularly Marie Hansen and Rosanna Demps; the staff of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts Dean's office, Barbara Davis, Janet Witt, Kris Knebel, Mike Wiethorn, Mike Stock, and in particular for the past two years, Deborah Vaughan, student assistant; the numerous anonymous readers; the editorial board of Theatre Topics for their extraordinary insight, and two who are instrumental in the inception and development of Theatre Topics, Julian Olf and Jim Symons. Finally, I wish to express my gratitude to four principal assistants, Roberta Sabbath, Jay Edelnant, Tommy Westerfield, and Cynthia Goatley. I thank all of the above for their guidance, encouragement and support. It's been my pleasure to serve as your editor and work with these people. Beverley Byers-Pevitts Editor ...
