178 THE EDITOR'S FENCE 1. It's Friday, It Must Be Phoenix; After six weeks of wandering through Germany, Austria and England, with brief stops in Zurich and Paris, we are happily confronting a massive backlog of mail. Apart from the fun of touring castles and visiting bookshops, libraries museums, and literary landmarks, we most enjoyed our meetings with old friends, some of whom we finally met personally for the first time. There was a little shoptalk along the way, we did wander into the British Museum, we did visit the Dorset County Museum and some of the nearby Hardy country, we did see a D'Oyly Carte production of "The Mikado" - but, in the main, our trip was a vacation from editorial correspondence and manuscripts, though not wholly from research. In any event, the editor is at his typewriter and will hopefully catch up on the backlog by the end of September. 2. ELT Seminar (MLA. New York)s The Short Story. Rate Change for 1973: We remind our subscribers again that renewals for I973 are payable at the end of the current year and at the new rates previously announced: U. S. : Annually $3.00 Single copy, back issues $1.00 Foreign: Annually $4.00 Single copy, back issues $1.50 These increases are due mainly to increased paper costs and increased postal costs. 5. Re-placement Copies: We take every precaution in mailing ELT to the correct address and securely wrapped. We regret we can no longer assume responsibility for non-delivery or damage to individual issues. Hereafter replacement copies can only be supplied at single copy rate. ...
