In the late 80s and early 90s, Riffaterre used linguistic stylistics and Peircean semiotics to analyze texts and distinguish between documentary and literary discourse. This study considers Pélagie-la-Charrette’s recounting of the Acadians’ “Grand dérangement” and shows the highly literary nature of its discourse.
