ELT 43 : 2 2000 outside the parish of difficult modernist writers in which she clearly belonged and made some of her work more widely accessible. Despite their importance for an understanding of her career, many of her essays and reviews have not yet appeared between hard covers. Not only is McNeillie's excellent edition of them still in progress, but as Kirkpatrick and Clarke have discovered, previously unidentified pieces keep turning up. So, for example, for the years 1904 to Woolfs marriage in 1912, the most recent bibliography lists 151 items. McNeillie reprinted only 109 of these in the 1986 first volume of the Essays because the others had not yet been identified. A Woolf scholar who wants a sense of everything she was writing about during her apprenticeship will have to consult this most recent edition of the bibliography. And anyone interested in doing archival work will be helped by Kirkpatrick and Clarke's list of Woolf manuscripts now available in various libraries and collections . In short, the fourth edition of A Bibliography of Virginia Woolf is a model of painstaking and accurate scholarship, with a great deal of new information. It is indispensable to an understanding of the full range of Woolfs work, the stages of her career and her posthumous fame, and the many tributary streams that fed the rapid river of her imagination.
