  • Some Principal Shaw Research Sources

Most Shavian researchers are by now essentially acquainted with the Shaw collections of the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, the Burgunder Collection at Cornell University, and the British Library, although these yet may contain vasty depths for us to plumb. (Enormously useful will be a published catalogue of Shaw holdings in the British Library, scheduled, at last word, for publication at the end of 2000.) There are, however, an astonishing lot of Shaw collections about which scholars know little or nothing.

When, therefore, we contemplated inviting Jim Tyler, past curator of the Bernard F. Burgunder Collection, to summarize its principal assets in a volume of which “Mr. B” would be the dedicatee, it seemed like a good idea to let the source proliferate into an assortment of smaller but no less estimable accumulations in domestic and foreign repositories. For these we invited specialists of four nations to provide investigatory reports, placing on them no restraints except for space limitation and no set avenues for scrutiny.]
