This study examines whether a gap exists between researchers' and practitioners' ideas about what constitutes significance and usefulness in content, methodology, and format. Data was collected from focus groups at major higher education conferences for three years. Both groups agreed that the higher education literature does not provide memorable, insightful, or important professional information. The study explores six possible explanations and proposes the new direction of mutuality and continuity in addressing the gap between researchers and practitioners.
