For 16 years, since Jewish Social Studies came to Stanford University, Aron Rodrigue has been one of its editors. Issue after issue has been shaped by his lively, deep intelligence, his superb scholarly grasp of Jewish Studies and much more, and his capacity to appreciate academic excellence in the widest range of forms. Ours has been a collaborative relationship between the closest of friends who are also the most trusting and respectful of colleagues.

Aron, now Director of the Stanford Humanities Center, has decided to step down as an editor of JSS. He will join a now-expanded Editorial Board inaugurated with this issue. This group includes Elisheva Carlebach, Mitchell Hart, Barbara Mann, Benjamin Nathans, Scott Spector, Sarah Abrevaya Stein, and Ronald Zweig—scholars who expand considerably the range of expertise on which JSS will draw and who also bring onto the Board a cluster of outstanding, younger specialists.

Under Aron's tenure as co-editor, JSS established itself as one of the premier journals of modern Jewish history and culture. Under its new Editorial Board, JSS will continue to showcase innovative scholarship and foster conversation within the increasingly interdisciplinary and vibrant fields of Jewish Studies.
