An unprecedented amount of digital information, appearing on a daily basis, needs to be archived and preserved over long time periods. Such information covers major facets of human activities such as business exchanges and electronic commerce, cultural and social interactions, e-government and legal proceedings, scientific studies and data collections, and even personal data such as digital photos and videos.
