Tracey L. Adams is associate professor of sociology at the University of Western Ontario. Her research focuses on the sociology of professions and work in contemporary and historical contexts. Her most recent research on interprofessional relationships and state-profession relations appears in the Sociological Quarterly, the Journal of Historical Sociology, and Histoire sociale.
Roel Jennissen is researcher at the Research and Documentation Centre of the Dutch Ministry of Justice. He is author of Macro-economic Determinants of International Migration in Europe (2004). His main research interests are the integration of non-Western minorities in the Netherlands, international migration, and historical demography.
Kevin Lander graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Tulane University in 2007, receiving a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in economics and history. He resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he is employed as an equity capital markets analyst at Piper Jaffray Companies.
Kees Mandemakers is senior research fellow at the International Institute for Social History, heading the Historical Sample of the Netherlands, and professor of large historical databases at Erasmus University, Rotterdam. His main research interests are the methodology of large historical databases, stratification, and mobility; secondary education; and infant and child mortality.
Jonathan Pritchett is associate professor of economics at Tulane University.
John G. Richardson is professor of sociology at Western Washington University. His current research is a historical-comparative study of special education for major Western countries. [End Page 245]
Frans van Poppel is senior researcher at the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute of the Royal Academy of Sciences in The Hague. His research focuses on the history of public health, marriage, and family formation. His recent publications include “Widowhood, Family Size, and Post-reproductive Mortality: A Comparative Analysis of Three Populations in Nineteenth Century Europe” (with George Alter and Martin Dribe), Demography (2007); and “Marriage Timing over the Generations” (with Christiaan Monden and Kees Mandemakers), Human Nature (2008).
