Introduction

Dear Readers,

The Southeastern Geographer is now a quarterly journal! We have expanded the journal because of the growing interest and ongoing commitment to build the journal into a recognized outlet for peer-reviewed research. The goal is to become eligible for ISI Journal Citation Reports. This issue, then, represents Number 1 in Volume 49.

Last year, we transitioned into becoming a quarterly by having two regular editions and a special edition guest edited by the former editor of the journal and SEDAAG President, Derek Alderman. This coming year, we will have at least two regular editions and probably two special editions. With this edition, we also welcome new Book Review Editor, E. Spencer Fleury. Spencer is a research faculty member and geographer with the University of South Florida Libraries. We also wish to formally welcome Editorial Assistant Leslie North who took over from Monica Exner who resigned to begin new adventures in the Pacific Northwest. We also wish to thank our Editorial Board and the reviewers for their outstanding service as we continue to expand and improve the journal.

In order for us to succeed as a quarterly journal, we need the continuing support of the membership of SEDAAG. Please send us your manuscripts, encourage others to think about the Southeastern Geographer as an outlet for their research, and please continue to serve as reviewers. We are also looking for editors of special issues. If you have an idea for a special edition, please contact us or send us your proposal. We have some exciting special issues that will be coming out in the near future and new ideas are always welcome.

In this issue, you will see a return to a section that was more common in the Southeastern Geographer in the past: Geographic Notes. In each issue, we would like to welcome one or two short articles on regional topics of interest to the readership of the Southeastern Geographer. In this issue, we have one short note on Cuba. We hope that readers enjoy this short article as well as the longer pieces in this quarter's edition.
