SAMUEL FREEMAN is Steven F. Goldstone Term Professor of Philosophy and Law at the University of Pennsylvania. He is editor of The Cambridge Companion to Rawls (forthcoming), to which he is also a contributor. He is currently writing on varieties of liberalism and liberal institutions. He is a past contributor to Philosophy & Public Affairs, with articles on social contract theories, constitutional interpretation, utilitarianism and deontology, and deliberative democracy.

DENNIS MCKERLIE is Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Calgary. He writes on ethics and ancient philosophy.
