Ryu Yŏn-Bok, born at Kap'yŏng, Kyŏnggi-do, moved to Seoul when he was in elementary school. He studied painting at Hongik University and after graduation, participated in the wall painting movement and woodcut print movement, as a part of the cultural movement for democratization in the 1980s. Currently he lives and works in Ansŏng, Kyŏnggi-do. He has had over 200 solo and group exhibitions in many countries, including several European nations and the United States. His works have been bought by several museums, including the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the Gyeonggido Museum of Art, Il Min Museum, and Jeonbuk Province Art Museum.
