  • Editor's Note

This issue of Legacy celebrates the occasion of the third International Conference of the Society for the Study of American Women Writers, held November 8-11, 2006. Herein, we print nine essays based on papers that were delivered at the conference, with an introduction prepared by SSAWW president Karen L. Kilcup. We thank everyone who submitted papers for this special issue and only regret that we cannot reprint more of them.

Planning is under way for the fourth SSAWW conference, scheduled to be held in October 2009, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. See the SSAWW website, list-serve, and newsletter for calls for papers and conference details.

We regret to announce that after this issue, Dawn Keetley will no longer serve as editor. We are sure you share our regard for Dawn's fine intellectual and editorial skills, and we will miss her steady and always insightful help in the future.

Theresa Strouth Gaul, of Texas Christian University, has agreed to serve as a co-editor for Legacy, effective 15 June 2008. We are delighted to welcome her and look forward to working with her.

Lisa Long's term on the Legacy editorial board has expired, and we thank her for her accurate and useful responses to submissions. Lisa has graciously agreed to continue her association with Legacy as a reader/consultant.

Jean Marie Lutes, of Villanova University, has accepted an appointment as a Board member, for a three-year term.

Leslie M. Hammer, who has served as our editorial assistant and as compiler of the Legacy Bookshelf has also resigned, and we are grateful to her for her kind, wise, and always dependable assistance.
