The following is a selected list of books, dissertations, theses, and articles about West Virginia's history. Most were published during 2007, but the list includes 2006 publications not found in last year's listing. The wide variety of topics and the assorted approaches to historical documentation reflected in this bibliography indicate that interest in West Virginia's history is strong.

My intent has been to assemble a bibliography of readily accessible works that expand the availability of primary documentation for the study of the state's heritage and that provide insights into West Virginia's past and present. I have included compilations of previously unpublished photographs that have become popular methods of presenting and preserving the history of a locality or an organization. Excluded are books and journals about family and local history, which the state's many genealogical and historical societies publish, as well as most of the numerous works of biography and autobiography, found in a multitude of books, local history journals, and Goldenseal. If you are aware of any pertinent recent publication not listed here, please bring it to my attention.
