[End Page 114]

  • Everything is so fluid...
  • Rafael Ballesteros
    Translated by Mark Aldrich (bio)

Everything is so fluid it is brief and light, empty like a shadow. So that only the most profound thingsare stable, true. And who has the fortitude or ingenuityto reach what is most hidden?

I know about man's inclinations:watch idly, always unsure about jumping inor just contemplating. And I say, it is always better to drownthan to watch! To drown naked, is there any better end?

Taken to your destinyby the flowing water!

Go to the edge of the water and look:in the end the drowned are quiet, some wave to lifeand the shore with a raised fist, others just get bloated, but has anyone seen them, even just one, look startled, with any anguish or anxiety?

They saw from within the flowand understood. And on sinking, they learned it all.
