• Richard Ballard is based at the School of Development Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, where he coordinates the Masters in Development Studies programme.

• Claire Bénit-Gbaffou teaches Planning and Geography at the University of the Witwatersrand. During 2005-7 she was a senior researcher at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) in Pretoria.

• Roger Deacon is an independent research consultant and an honorary research associate attached to Politics and Education at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

• Christine Fauvelle-Aymar is an economist at the University of Tours in France. She is currently a research affiliate at the French Centre for Ethiopian Studies, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

• Bill Freund is emeritus Professor of Economic History and Development Studies in the School of Politics, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban.
