Mainly by discussion of a particular, largely unedited, example, the article seeks to highlight some of the basic problems that still confront anyone interested in how Greek saints' lives were diffused in the West through Latin translation: a very large body of evidence for all kinds of cultural history that crossed the boundary between East and West.
