Geórgicas

Tengo frío junto a los manantiales. He subidohasta cansar mi corazón.

[End Page 8]

Georgics

I am cold beside the springs. I have climbeduntil my heart wearied.

There are black weeds on the slopes and purplelilies in the shadows, yet what am I doing infront of the abyss?

Under silent eagles, immensity lacks meaning.

Between the dung pile and the lightning I hearthe shepherd's cry.

There is light yet on the hawk's wings and I godown to the wet bonfires.

I have heard the bell of snow, I have seen themushroom of purity, I have createdforgetfulness.

Facing vineyards blackened by winter, I thinkabout fear and about light (one singlesubstance in my eyes),

I think about rain and about distances piercedby wrath. [End Page 9]

Un bosque se abre en la memoria y el olor aresina es útil al corazón. Vi las esferas delsudor y los insectos en la dulzura;

luego, el crepúsculo en sus ojos;

[End Page 10]

A woods opens in memory, the smell of resinis useful for the heart. I saw globs of sweat,insects in the sweetness;

later, the dusk in their eyes;

then, thistle seething in the rye and the fatigueof birds pursued by light.

This house was being used for farming anddeath.

In its interior nettles spread, flowers weigh onthe planks tormented by rain.

The body glows in the deep entry hall, in frontof braids of esparto grass and cupboardsreserved for quince and shadows.

Suddenly, weeping lights up the stables.

A neighbor washes funeral garb; her arms arepale between night and water. [End Page 11]

[End Page 12]

I climb over animal excrement and rest undermusical oaks.

Doves cross between my body and twilight, thewind ceases, shadows are damp.

Grass of solitude, black doves: I have arrived,finally; this is not my place, but I have arrived.

Fertile mares in the phosphorescence. Iremember fear and happiness in my haircrackling with lightning; then water and...
