William E. Hardy is currently a doctoral student in history at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Paul F. Paskoff is associate professor of history at Louisiana State University. He is the author of Troubled Waters: Steamboat Disasters, River Improvements, and American Public Policy, 1821-1860 (Louisiana State University Press, 2007).

Lewis Perry is John Francis Bannon Professor of History at Saint Louis University and author, among other works, of “Baptism on the Universalist Frontier,” Journal of Unitarian Universalist History (2003). His current project is a history of civil disobedience in America.

Matthew C. Sherman is a doctoral candidate in the history department at Saint Louis University. He is a co-editor of Political Conspiracies in America: A Reader (Indiana University Press, 2008). He is currently writing his dissertation on presidential assassinations and conspiracy in the nineteenth century.
