The day was calm, the sea still like a salt marsh.Everything still, its short perched body stillon the tip of a stone along the dam,a cluster of still dots around the blue back,the orange breast and the long beak.Just before spotting it you had been stoppedby stillness itself, sand and airin their absolutely settled vast velvet.One step closer and it flew offskimming the water-skin, a silentstraight line of fast beating wings.All sounds were muffledin this day of low, glowing haze,so you could say it was in the airthe praised pace of those lines—At the still point of the turning world… —with the simple shiver of a truth beyond words.No wing then answered light to light,the colours of its body would retain it all.But you sensed all the samethe mute fullness that makes the world turn,the heart of stillness where the gazeready for marvels just waits.

El día era calmo, el mar manso como una marisma.Todo tranquilo, su bajo cuerpo encaramado, posado tranquiloen la punta de una piedra al lado de la represa,un grupo de puntos impasibles alrededor de la espalda azul,el pecho anaranjado y el pico largo.Justo antes de descubrirlo te había detenidola quietud misma, arena y aireen su terciopelo absolutamente inmóvil y vasto.Un paso más y levantó vuelorozando la piel del agua, una líneasilenciosa y recta de alas agitándose rápidamente.Todos los sonidos se habían amortiguadoen este día de niebla baja y radiante,así que podrías decir que estaba en el aireel paso alabado de estas líneas— En el momento suspendido del mundo que gira... —con el sencillo temblor de una verdad que escapa a las palabras.Ninguna ala entonces respondió luz a la luz,los colores de su cuerpo lo retendrían todo.Pero a pesar de todo percibistela plenitud muda que da movimiento al globo,el corazón de quietud donde la miradareceptiva a las maravillas simplemente espera.
