Abstract

This paper uses the Youth and History findings to examine the conceptual framework by which Greek students understand the formation of society over time. It assesses their view of historical development and attempts to reconstitute the logic of the interpretive images they employ to explain social change. It identifies and analyzes the ideological constituents of their fundamentally ahistorical viewpoints, which only appear to be ideologically neutral. Finally, this paper concludes by raising some hypotheses concerning the political consequences of such thinking.
