Abstract

Fear has become the emotion du jour, among scholars and, mostof themargue, among wider publics as well. This essay reviews several importantworks, in several disciplines, that have appeared over the past sevenyears. The essay discusses their relationship to earlier historicalfindings and their implications for recent emotional history and itsramifications in culture and politics.
