Skwire uses the letters of Anne Conway and An Collins as case studies of chronically ill early modern women writers and the differing ways they faced the challenges of being marginalized by gender, health, and intellect. Conway and Collins' complicated responses to such challenges point to the complexity of the early modern response to illness.
