Abstract

"Speaking Women's Bodies: A Conversation" is a reprint of two of visual artist Ann Starr's books of art, along with a conversation between Starr and feminist scholar Susan Squier. The conversation arising from the first book, Where Babies Come From: A Miracle Explained, examines the cultural control and even suppression of female bodily processes and generative power. The discussion of the second book, The Forty-Seventh Thanksgiving, explores a possible reclaiming of and rejoicing in the very bodily processes that so much of society has tried to keep hidden.
