- APCG Student Paper Awards
The Awards Committee, under the leadership of Dolly Freidel, presented the following Student Paper Awards at the 68th Annual Meeting held in Phoenix, Arizona, in October 2005.
The Tom McKnight and Joan Clemons Award for Outstanding Student Paper was presented to Peggy Hauselt, University of California, Davis, for "Modeling Water Usage in Sacramento Valley Rice Production."
The President's Award for Outstanding Paper by a Ph.D. Student was presented to Erika Wise, University of Arizona, for "Urban Air Quality Impacts of Wildfires in the U.S. Southwest."
The Harry and Shirley Bailey Award for Outstanding Paper by a Ph.D. Student was presented to Reena Patel, University of Texas at Austin, for "Working the Night Shift: Women's Employment in the Mumbai Call Center Industry."
The President's Award for Outstanding Paper by an M.A. or M.S. Student was presented to Nancy Hiemstra, University of Oregon, for "Spatial Patterns of Interaction and the Social Construction of Difference: Latino Immigration in Leadville, CO."
The President's Award for Outstanding Paper by an Undergraduate Student was presented to Frank Gravante, Sonoma State University, for "Geographic Analysis of California Secondary Schools' Academic Accountability in Relation to Socio-Economic Conditions: A Case Study of the Santa Rosa High School District, Sonoma County, CA."
The Committee Award in Regional Geography was presented to Marissa Smith, Arizona State University, for "Conservation, Conflict and Social Capital: A Case Study Comparison of the United States and Mexico."
The President's Award for Outstanding Student Poster Presentation was presented to Carrie Hofer, Humboldt State University, for "Desert Pavement and the Mojave."
The Association congratulates each of these recipients and applauds their fine efforts.
