Editorial Note

The following five commentaries concern an article published in CJCCJ 46:5 (October 2004), pp. 531–552, entitled "Lifetime Sex Offender Recidivism: A 25-Year Follow-Up Study," by Ron Langevin, Suzanne Curnoe, Paul Fedoroff, Renee Bennett, Mara Langevin, Cheryl Peever, Rick Pettica, and Shameen Sandhu. This article was the subject of some media comment and of a letter to the editor of the Journal by Dr Fedoroff, published in volume 47, no. 3 (July 2005), pp. 579–580. Upon acceptance of the comment by Cheryl Marie Webster, Rosemary Gartner, and Anthony N. Doob that appears below, the Journal commissioned comments on the debate from Drs Marnie E. Rice and Grant T. Harris and from Dr R. Karl Hanson. Finally, Dr Langevin and his colleagues were invited to provide replies to these comments.

Les cinq commentaires qui suivent portent sur un article publié dans le numéro d'octobre 2004 de la RCCJP (vol. 46, nº 5, p. 531–552) et intitulé « Sex offender recidivism: A 25-year follow-up study ». Cet article, dont les auteurs sont Ron Langevin, Suzanne Curnoe, Paul Fedoroff, Renee Bennett, Mara Langevin, Cheryl Peever, Rick Pettica et Shameen Sandhu, avait suscité des commentaires dans les médias, ce qui a amené le Dr Fedoroff à envoyer une lettre à la rédaction de la Revue (voir le numéro de juillet 2005, vol. 47, nº 3, p. 579–580). Dès son acceptation du commentaire signé par Cheryl Marie Webster, Rosemary Gartner et Anthony N. Doob (voir ci-dessous), la Revue a demandé aux Drs Marnie E. Rice et Grant T. Harris et au Dr R. Karl Hanson d'alimenter le débat en fournissant à leur tour des commentaires. Enfin, nous avons invité le Dr Langevin et ses collègues à réagir par écrit à ces commentaires.
