This paper discusses the role played by transfer of technology in the socioeconomic development of neighboring countries, Israel and Turkey. The transfer of local innovations, into the private sector or lack thereof, and the comparative technology transfer modes used by the two societies are documented in the context of their disparate social characteristics, public policies, and practices since gaining statehood.
