Sponsored by Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve at the newly renovated Sheraton Bucks County Hotel, Langhorne, Pennsylvania, this stimulating and informative symposium for professionals will focus on ways to create low-maintenance, economical and ecologically balanced landscapes using native plants and restoration techniques. Botanical Illustration of Desert Native Flora. 7–9 April 2006. California State University-San Bernar-dino, Desert Studies Center at Soda Springs, California. Instructor: Donald Davidson. Biologists and artists study together for professional development and field experience. Interdisciplinary course introduces drawing, color, and composition focusing on botanical form and function as well as keying-out plants. Terms used to identify and describe flora are covered along with demonstrations of rendering techniques in pencil, pen, and watercolor. Exercises in eye-hand coordination and comprehensive line drawing stressing contour, volume, and perspective improve perception and interpretation of inherent aesthetics and physiology of wildflowers.
