The Editorial Board is pleased to announce the first annual award for best article of the year appearing in the pages of portal:Libraries and the Academy and to ex-press its appreciation to the Johns Hopkins Press for supporting the award. The inaugural recipient is "A Survey of Business Trends at BioOne Publishing Partners and its Implications for BioOne," featured in the October 2004, Volume 4, Number 4 issue. The winning article was co-authored by Todd A. Carpenter, Heather Joseph and Mary Waltham and analyzed data on financial conditions for both profit and non-profit titles.
