A Note from the Editor

The essays included in this issue of American Literary History were part of a symposium held in March of 2004 at the University of Kentucky. We would like to thank others who also participated in the proceedings, including Tina Chen, Andrew Doolen, David Theo Goldberg, Dana Nelson, Dianna Nybielski, Yolanda Pierce, and Fay Yarbrough. I would also like to acknowledge the financial support of the Universitys Provosts office, the Vice-Chancellor for Research, and the College of Arts and Sciences. The University was unfailingly generous in helping the journal during its tenure in Lexington, and I am happy to express my gratitude to UK and the various administrators it was my pleasure to work with there.
