Abstract

A short story by P.G. Wodehouse reveals many clues to his admiration for Henry James. This unlikely pair of authors had parallel careers and many friends in common, although there is no evidence that the two met. "Honeysuckle Cottage," though the subject of very little criticism by Wodehouse scholars, was thought by Wodehouse to be his funniest story. One of the literary jokes played in the short story is the use of James's "The Turn of the Screw" as a literary reference; another is the use of several of James's character names and situations.
