Pathways to the Professoriate: The Role of Self, Others, and Environment in Shaping Academic Career Aspirations

This study examines the personal and environmental factors that influenced university faculty members' decisions to pursue an academic career. Interviews focused on the inherent attraction to academic work and the individual experiences that shaped their career choice. Findings are considered within Astin's socio-psychological model of career choice.
