Call for Papers


The year 2005 will mark the 85th anniversary of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, guaranteeing women the right to vote in the United States of America. To commemorate this watershed, we invite papers on the American suffrage movement for a special issue of the Canadian Review of American Studies. We welcome a variety of approaches and perspectives relating to the movement; these may include, but are not limited to, studies of political strategies, analyses of key figures, evaluations of the literature and ephemera produced by and about suffrage, explorations of suffrage rhetoric, and examinations of the portrayal of suffrage/suffragists in popular culture.

Please submit two hard copies of papers and curriculum vitae by 30 September 2004 to either:
