The Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, New Jersey, announces memberships for 1999–2000. The School of Historical Studies is concerned principally with the history of western and near eastern civilization, with particular emphasis upon Greek and Roman civilization, the history of Europe, Islamic culture, the history of art, and the history of modern international relations. In addition to these fields, the School will support three members in the history and culture of traditional China for the academic year. Ph.D. (or equivalent) and substantial publications are required of all candidates. Application may be made for one or two terms (Sept.-Dec., Jan.-Apr.). The Institute for Advanced Study also announces Mellon Fellowships for two qualified assistant professors. Applicants must have served at least two, and not more than four years as assistant professors in institutions of higher learning in the United States or Canada. The American Psychoanalytic Association, Committee on Research and Special Training, announces the 1998 CORST Essay Prize of $1000 for essays on psychoanalytically informed research in the bio-behavioral sciences, social sciences, arts or humanities. The winning essay (c. 30 pp.) will be presented at the December meeting of The American Psychoanalytic Association and will be reviewed for publication by the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association. The Journal of the History of Ideas offers the annual Morris D. Forkosch Prize of $2,000 for the best book in intellectual history published during the past year. The awards committee favors books that are published in English and that display interdisciplinary range, demonstrate sound scholarship, and make an original contribution to the history of thought and culture. Submissions are limited to the first book published by any author. Entries for 1999 should have a copyright date of 1998. Annual deadline: 31 December. For details, contact Donald R.
