Preface

This issue marks the transition of Hypatia's editorial officesfrom the University of Oregon to The Pennsylvania State University. As always, Nancy and Laurie continue to coedit the journal thanks to electronic communications.

There are many individuals, now at three institutions, to thank for their generosity in supporting Hypatia. At the University of Oregon, we want to give our strongest thanks to Russ Tomlin, Associate Dean for the Humanities, whose vision and perseverance made it possible to bring Hypatia to the University of Oregon in 1998. During our three-year tenure there, Hypatia was supported by generous grants from the Center for the Study of Women in Society, the Department of Philosophy, the Department of English, the Humanities Center, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Dean of Research. The University of Oregon was a wonderful home for Hypatia, and we thank everyone involved for their commitment to feminist philosophy.

The journal moved to Penn State University when Nancy began her new position as Director of the Rock Ethics Institute. We have the support of John Stuhr, Head of the Department of Philosophy, and Susan Welch, Dean, The College of the Liberal Arts, to thank for our new home and the institutional resources that enable an academic journal to succeed.

We also want to thank California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, for their ongoing support of Hypatia, with special thanks to Barbara Way, Dean of the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences, and Judy Miles, Chair of the Philosophy Department.
