Editor’s Note

As French Forum begins the new millennium with a new managing team and a new publisher, we would like to pay tribute to Virginia and Raymond La Charité, both alumni of the Department of Romance Languages at the University of Pennsylvania, who founded this journal twenty-five years ago and who established it as one of the premier journals in the field of French Studies. We are immensely grateful for their herculean efforts and for their generosity in bequeathing it to their alma mater.

We salute you, Gini and Ray, and wish you a well-deserved retirement after so many years of devoted labor to the profession and after having made such an important contribution to it. We are honored that you have chosen us to carry the torch, and we hope to prove worthy of your confidence in us.

We would like to thank the Florence Gould Foundation for its generous support. We would also like to thank the members of the past editorial committee for their good work, as well as all the members of the new committee. Finally our thanks to the subscribers to French Forum for their continued support. We look forward to bringing them the review they have helped maintain over the past quarter-century.
