Abstract

Christ does not completely reveal himself to uneducated or unlearned souls. Rather, he enlightens and appears to those more apt to learn, those who have given birth to an initial faith in simple words and press forward toward the knowledge of more perfect things. . . . Therefore let those in the church who are responsible for teaching entrust newcomers first to be shaped by the catechetical discourse and then later show Jesus to them, bringing them up from a relatively superficial pedagogy to the more perfect knowledge of faith.1
