Frears had another critical success with The Grifters, for which he was nominated for a Best Director Oscar and he also directed two films based on stories by Roddy Doyle—The Snapper and The Van. He has since directed a number of films in both Britain and America, including High Fidelity, Dirty Pretty Things and the very sentimental Mrs Henderson Presents starring Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins. Frears received his second Academy Award nomination for directing The Queen and Helen Mirren won the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in that film, along with a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award. Michael Sheen reprised his role as Tony Blair from the 2003 television film The Deal, also by Frears, which dealt with the relationship of Blair with his chancellor and eventual successor, Gordon Brown. Frears now lives in London, where he is a frequent lecturer on film.
