The sound of weeping
In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

I was walking down the dormitory hall
when I heard a woman crying. We
were all women in a dorm then.
I knocked and without waiting
a response, walked in.

Naive in action, impulsive eighteen
I rushed in and soon I was
holding her, and soon I heard
of the football linebacker
who raped her.

So things begin. A tangle
of friendships, a plot of revenge,
a favor that backfires, a regret
that grows into a mangrove
swamp no one can cross.

Some actions cast a long
shadow like a standing stone
in a henge; others, the moment
swallows and there is no residue
as if they never happened.
