In this response to critical commentaries on The American Pragmatists, I clarify and sharpen some of the arguments made in the bookâfor instance, about how Quine and Lewis fit into my account of the history of pragmatism; how first-person experience is relevant to inquiry; and how metaphysical meta-philosophies are set against the naturalist tradition of pragmatism.
